Abstract

Antiphospholipid antibodies belong to a autoantibody family that are able to recognizeall the phospholipids and phospholipid binding proteins. Antiphospholipid syndrome defines a clinical analogy between the antiphospholipid antibodies and the hypercoagulability syndrome. It is characterized by vascular thrombosis and one or more fetal death with normal morphologic structure after the 10 th gestational week, one ormore normal premature birth before the 34 th gestational week and 3 or more spontan abortus with unknown etiology before the 10 th gestational week and anticardiolipin and lupus anticoagulant antibodies. There are a lot of hypothesis focused on the celluler and molecular mechanisms of vascular thrombosis caused by antiphospholipid antibodieshowever the pathogenesis remains still unclear. We present here a patient with vascular headache since 5-6 years characterized with right hemicrania and photophobia. She had vision decreasment followed by her headache in 2001. (Diagnosting testing with) CT and MRI showed thrombosis of the right transverse and sigmoid sinuses. In this duration she had a 8 week old pregnancy. The patient defines 2 spontan abortuses in her history. After we have checked all possible reasons for thrombosis and investigated all the coagulability confirming tests we evaluated antiphospholipid, lupus and anticardiolipin antibodies as possible etiology of thrombosis and abortus. Theantiphospholipid lgG antibody levels were elavuatedif checked in two separate periods with 2 month intervals.Because this case fullfilled at least one clinical and laboratuary diagnostic criteria we accepted it as APAS and found it valuable to present here.
