Abstract

Epileptic seizure following cerebrovasculer disorders is not rare. In this study, weprospectively invastigated the risk of seizure due to stroke and correlated the epileptic fits with lateralization, localisation, size and type of lesion and mortality rate. We alsoinvastigated the role of heredity in seizures due to stroke. Consecutive 285 stroke patiens were followed averege 26 months (11 to 41 months). Tbe incidance of epilepsy in stroke patiens was %20. The mortality rate in both epileptic and nonepileptic cases withintracerebral haemorrhage was higher than other causes of stroke. Cortical lesions due toinfarction, were increasing the risk of epileptic fits. Positive family history about epilepsy was increasing the risk of epileptic fits due to stroke.
