Abstract

To define possible levels of functional impairment, electroencephalography and evoked potential studies were performed in eight children with Rett syndrome. EEGs were abnormal in all patients, showing generalized discharges in all and epileptic foci in four of them. Background activity abnormalities were not present. VEPs showed delayed latency in two cases. BAEPs were abnormal in one case characterised by bilaterally delayed I-III and III-V interpeak latencies. in one patient giant SEPs with delayed N20 components were detected. This patient had clinical seizures and had temporal and parietal spikes and spike and wave discharges on EEG:
