Abstract

Although underrecognized, peripheral neuropathy is one of the most frequently encountered extraglandular manifestations of Sjögren's syndrome. Symmetric sensori-motor or pure sensory neuropathies are common. Diagnostic difficulties arise when the findings related to peripheral neuropathy are not accompanied by glandular abnormalities. In this report we present an 81-year-old lady presenting with a right foot drop, eventually diagnosed as mononeuropathy multiplex (MNM) by clinical and electrophysiological methods. The patient developed gangrene of the toes of the right foot, after coronary angiography. The pathologic investigation revealed vasculitis in the amputated limb. Mononeuropathy multiplex resulting from vasculitis is an uncommon occurrence in Sjögren's syndrome.
