Abstract
lmproved understanding of the neurobiology of migraine led to the development of 5 HT 1B/1D receptor agonists as abortive therapy for migraine. In this study 40 patients diagnosed as migraine and not responsive to nonsteroidal antiinflamatory drugs were treated for their 3 attacks and the results of second hour were compared. Two groups consisting 20 patients with equal MIDAS scores were given 100 mg sumatriptanand 2,5 mg zolmitriptan. At the end of the second hour 38 % of the attacks in the sumatriptan group were completely treated where as 62 % became very mild. 38 % of the 52 attacks in the zolmitriptan group completely resolved at the end of the twohours whereas 61 % changed into a mild headache. This proved out that both drugs had no significant difference between them in treating migraine attack (p> 0,05)
