Myelopaty Caused by Vitamin B12 Deficiency

Abstract
Background: Vitamin B12 deficiency causes a wide range of haematological, gastrointestinal, psychiatric and neurological disorders. The neurological syndroms associated with vitamin B12 deficiency include myelopathy, neuropathy, neuropsyciatric abnormalities, dementia and optic atrophy.Objectives: We describe a patient who presented with myelopathy and neuropsychiatric abnormalities related to vitamin B12 deficiency. After the replacement of vitamin B12 the patient's symptoms were improved.Material and Methods: Along with routine neurologic examination, biochemical screen, serological tests, vasculities markers, thyroid function tests, vitamin B12 level, spinal fluid analysis, electrodiagnostic tests, cranial, cervical and thorocolumbar magnetic resonance imaging was conducted.Results: After the replacement of vitamin B12 the patient's symptoms were improved in six months. Conclusion: Early recognition and treatment is so important for the prevention of irreversible complications.
