Abstract

Myelination in the central nervous system which is formed by specialized processes of the plasma membranes of oligodendrocytes, should be understood well, in order to comprehend the pathophysiology of diseases characterised by demyelination. in this article, we reviewed the embryonic development and differentiation of the oligodendrocytes, axonal myelination, structure of the myelin and the factors playingrole in the regulation and maintenance of the myelination.
