Abstract

Scientific Background: Atrial septal aneurysm is a congenital malformation of the atrial septum which has thromboembolic potential, characterized by bulging of the septum overlying the fossa ovalis region; into the left or the right atrium or both of them. Embolisation of the thrombi which is formed within the aneurysm may be the cause of the stroke. Certain causes for approximately 40 % of the acute ischemic strokes can not be detected and they are called as cryptogenic stroke. ASA is an important risk factor especially in cryptogenic stroke. Objectives: Our aim was to discuss three ischemic stroke patients with ASA. Conclusions: We suggest that performing the TEE in ischemic stroke patients in whom no risk factor could be found, may reveal further information to find out the etiology.
