Abstract
Scientific BACKGROUND: Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) is an acute widespread demyelinating condition, which affects brain and spinal cord usually after vaccination or viral infection. Diagnosis is made by cranial imaging, lumbar puncture and presence of myelin basic protein. The classic treatment for ADEM consists of IV administration of steroids.
OBJECTIVES: Recently, there have been been few publications concerning the successful use of IV immunglobulins (IVIG) in ADEM. Here, we report a case of steroid resistent ADEM in a patient with acute axonal motor neuropathy, she was treated succesfully with IVIG.
CONCLUSION: Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis with acute motor axonal neuropathy has been reported by now in two patients.
