Abstract

hundred and eight patients with left-sided cerebrovascular disease were examined byusing aphasia test 12 to 15 days after the stroke. Of the 108 cases, 95 (87.9 %) were aphasic. This rate was higher than previous studies. The incidence of global aphasia was 48.4 % in aphasic group. In contrast to classical data, anterior-posterior cortical subcortical lesions were seen in only 56.5 % of the cases. Global aphasia is the most common aphasia type and can be seen with lesions of different areas in left hemispehere.
