Abstract
We investigated auditory event-related potential contingent negative variation (CNV) in 43 epileptic patients and 29 age matched controls. Twenty six patients had primary generalized seizures and 17 had partial seizures. CNV amplitudes and area were examined in these patients. CNV amplitudes and CNV areas of epileptic paitents were significantly lower and smaller than controls. As a result of this study, we thought that electrophysiological brain responses such as CNV can help to evaluate objective measurement of cognitive competence in epileptic patients and especially patients with longer duration of the disease and with partial seziure.
