Abstract

In this article we present two patients who showed acute hemichoreaic movements which were because of hyperglycaemic hyperosmolar non -ketotic state and disappeared with treatment. Hyperglycaemic hyperosmolar non-ketotic state is seen commonly in 7 and 9th decades specially in diabetes mellitus type II. The blood glucose level is usually over 600 mg/dl. Progressive muscle paralysis and stupor is frequently but coma is rarely observed. The syndrome of chorea ballismus is a well recognized but seldom seen complication of hyperglycaemic hyperosmolar non-ketotic state(8, 9). Besides, focal and generalised seizures, focal neurological deficits and stroke-like syndromes, and hallucinations can accompany(1O).
