Incidence of Stroke in Isparta Province Turkey

The purpose of this study is to determine the rates of stroke incidence and case fatality during acute phase of stroke in Isparta province. In this city between January 1, 1993 and December 31, 1997 The average of population above 18 years of age was 163, 797. During this five years period, 1717 cases among this population was assessed. The rate of stroke incidence was 151 Per 100.000 inhibants> 18 years. It was seen that the incidence of stroke increased steply with age up to 75 years of age. There wasn't any statically difference of incidence between sexes. The commonest type of stroke wascerebral infarction by 65. 7%. During the acute phase the rate of case for all stroke cases was 13.1 %, for cerebral infarction 10.3%, for intracerebral hemorrhage 21.1 %, and that for subarachnoidal hemorrhage 21.1%.In conclusion, The most of our results were shown to be similar to those reported from most of other studies, but the incidence rates of stroke above 75 years of age in Isparta province were lower than in the developed countries.
