Objective: Objective: There is still no sufficient level of evidence in the current guidelines for the endovascular treatment option of basilar artery occlusions. This study aims to investigate the factors affecting the functional outcome and mortality of patients after basilar artery thrombectomy at thirth month.
Materials and Methods: Materials and Methods: In the study, the clinical, radiological and interventional procedural features of 22 patients who underwent basilar artery thrombectomy in our stroke center between 2016 and 2021 were evaluated retrospectively. The patients were divided into two groups according to their third-month mortality and morbidity, and they were evaluated with the intent of their statistically significance based on comorbidity, basilar artery occlusion level and collateral status, symptom recanalization time and general anesthesia status.
Results: Results: In the patient group with the high third-month mortality rate, the symptom-recanalization time was found to be statistically significantly longer (p=0.034), while in the patient group with high posterior cerebral system collateral scores, the third-month functional outcomes were found to be statistically significantly better (p=0.022).
Conclusion: Conclusion: In the endovascular treatment of basilar artery occlusions, the mortality rate of the patients increaseas as the recanalization time increaseas, and it is determined that the patients with higher posterior cerebral system collateral scores are more likely to benefit from the basilar artery thrombectomy procedure.
