Myelopathy: Retrospective Evaluation Of 28 Cases

Objective: Myelopathy is used to describe any neurological deficit related to the spinal cord itself. Determining the etiology is impotant for detection of an emergency, making differential diagnosis and treatment of the cause.
Materials and Methods: We evaluated 28 patients diagnosed and treated as myelopathy between January 2014 and January 2015 in our hospital, clinical and laboratory findings of the patients and their response to treatment were assessed.
Results: Of the 28 patients 16 were male and 12 were female mean age was 48 (22-77). The initial complaint of the patients was most frequently sensorial deficits and motor weaknes. The most common pathology was demyelinating diseases and multiple sclerosis. Magnetic Resonance Imaging frequently detected increased signal on the T2W images. We observed improvement 15 of the 20 patients who were treated with corticosteroids. Besides, vitamin B12 treatment lead to clinical improvement in two patientes who were diagnosed as subacute combined degeneration.
Conclusion: In the present study diagnoses, treatment and prognoses of the patients with myelopathy were assessed. The importance of emergent situations and differential diagnoses were discussed.
